Blade design
I designed and prototyped two sloyd knives, two wood chisels, and two hook knives. Feedback from local woodcarvers helped refine the blade shape, bevel, and size.
Designed with the people who use them
Rough forging and heat treatment
I forged a billet of 1080 and 15N20 carbon steels, then shaped and heat-treated the blades to 56 HRC for edge retention.
A 60-layer Damascus billet
Ferrules and handles
I formed copper ferrules and explored surface texture and patinas. Mahogany handles were turned to sit comfortably in the hand and suit the motion of each tool.
